More than 3.2 million tourists visit Glasgow every year to enjoy a wealth of
cultural and leisure attractions, and as a base to explore the magnificent scenery which surrounds
the city. Others choose to take in the sights in and around the city itself, which features some of
the UK's most spectacular and inspiring architecture, from the classical, prestigious High Court
to the ultra modern Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC), nicknamed 'The Armadillo'.
Glasgow has more than 20 museums and art galleries (all with FREE admission), including the world
famous Burrell Collection, a purpose-built gallery in the middle of a country park with art
treasures from Degas to Henry Moore.
With more than 70 parks and gardens stretched across this city, more than any other city of a
similar size, it is little wonder that Glasgow has earned itself the label of 'Dear Green Place'. If
you are looking to break away and find yourself some peace and quiet for lunch, or perhaps
you fancy a pleasant afternoon siesta, there can be no better place than Kelvingrove Park,
situated beside the tranquillity of the River Kelvin.
If you're planning for a whole day of retail therapy, you're in for a real treat. Glasgow is
the UK's best shopping centre outside of London, where gleaming malls sit alongside bohemian
shops selling specialised crafts and precious gifts. And where better to begin your purchase
pleasure than the St Enoch Centre. With over 70 shops under one roof, selling everything from
the latest fashion and footwear to fine china and this seasons Rangers kit, the St Enoch
Centre truly is 'The Spirit of Glasgow'.
